Half-Life 3 confirmed!! Sort of

Update: First screenshots and trailer added below.

Valve Software has announced that a brand-new Half-Life game is in development for PC, and it’s launching in March 2020.

The game is called Half-Life: Alyx and it’s set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 – so it’s less of a sequel, and more of a tie-in. However, Valve promises that it’ll be packed full of the series’ staple features: “world exploration, puzzle solving, visceral combat, and an intricately woven story that connects it all with the characters iconic to the Half-Life universe.”

Unlike the previous entries, however, Half-Life: Alyx has been developed from the ground-up for Virtual Reality technology, and will be compatible with “all PC VR headsets” at launch.

It sounds like Valve is going all-in on this one, in finally giving the fans what they want whilst also pushing the VR agenda with a game that is sure to sell more than a few headsets. Valve’s founder Gabe Newell said the following: “VR has energized us. We’ve invested a lot of ourselves in the technology. But we’re also game developers at heart, and to be devoting ourselves to a VR game this ambitious is just as exciting. For that to come in the form of Half-Life feels like the culmination of a lot things we care a lot about: truly great games, cutting edge technology, and open platforms. We can’t wait for people to experience this.”

Can the “Half-Life 3 confirmed!” jokes finally stop now?
