We’re getting a new Space Invaders compilation in 2020

UPDATE 2: Arkanoid vs Space Invaders is a separate download (13th December 2020)

So it turns out that the Nintendo Switch version of Space Invaders Forever has two separate downloads – one with Space Invaders Extreme and Gigamax 4 SE, and a second standalone download for Arkanoid X Space Invaders. Our review code didn’t unlock the latter, however we’re assured that this issue has been fixed for those thinking of buying the game. If you’re on the fence, hang tight for our review!

UPDATE: Arkanoid vs Space Invaders appears to be missing from the Nintendo Switch version of Space Invaders Forever (13th December 2020)

This is a weird one. Space Invaders Forever launched on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 last Thursday (although it may have been overshadowed by a certain first-person RPG). I received a Switch code for review on launch day, and Arkanoid Vs. Space Invaders appears to be missing! I’ve seen footage of the PS4 game and it’s sat right there, at the bottom of the main menu, yet it’s completely absent from the Nintendo Switch version.

The press release announcing the game for both platforms appeared to confirm that the three games would be present and correct on both consoles, and weirder still, the Nintendo eShop listing also references the Arkanoid vs Space Invaders crossover.

I’ve reached out to my PR contact for more information and will update if and when we get a response.

ININ Games has announced a release date for Space Invaders Forever – a compilation of three modern interpretations of TAITO’s classic video game series, including a crossover with fellow arcade title Arkanoid.

The first game is Space Invaders Extreme, which debuted on Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable as a remake of the original arcade title in celebration of its thirtieth anniversary. This was later remastered in HD for Xbox Live, and I’d say that it’s safe to assume it’ll be this version that’s present in this modern compilation.

Next is Space Invaders Gigamax 4 SE, which I can’t seem to find any information about online! Other outlets have copied and pasted the fact that it’s a game from 2018, but even Destructoid has omitted this game’s original platform in a list of titles within the bigger Space Invaders: Invincible Collection. A quick YouTube search only turns up footage of the game running on Nintendo Switch, also as part of that Invincible Collection.

Finally, we have Arkanoid vs Space Invaders which was a mobile crossover between the two titular titles, which promises 150 stages and “huge 3D Invader bosses.”

The game is launching on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 – both digitally and via retail outlets – on 11th December 2020.
